Great Players of the Mountain Dulcimer
Item
Name: Great Players of the Mountain Dulcimer CD
Item Number: CD OMM GPMD
Price: $ 15 .00 plus S+H
Featuring 16 instrumental tracks from award-winning American artists (7 players are regional dulcimer champions and 6 won awards in the national dulcimer competition at Winfield, Kansas), this CD is a sampler that expresses the diverse styles of mountain dulcimer artistry. Original and tradition folk tunes, hymns and lullabies comprise the "sweet music" of this collection. The tunes are played in both fingerpicking and strummed style in both solo or ensemble arrangments. Rejoice, Rejoice, Believers, a Swedish hymntune from Eulberg's critically acclaimed Hark, the Glad Sound! recording was the track selected for inclusion in this project. Michael Shull, who holds numerous regional championships and was a three-time top five finalist in the National Mountain Dulcimer Competition, coordinated this project: "I felt the time was right for another quality "Sampler" type recording that promosts dulcimer artists. Masters of the Mountain Dulcimer, Vol I (1997), helped dulcimer artists obtain large exposure for their playing styles and recordings. However, many great players were not included in that project and some others have come into their own since that time," Shull writes from his South Carolina home. The Players: Mike Anderson MacPherson's Lament (Illinois) Linda Brockington Sheebegh-Sheemore (Arkansas) Mike Clemmer Be Thou My Vision (Tennessee) Joe Collins A Mighty Fortress (N. Carolina) Larry Conger Cradle Hymn (Tennessee) Jim Curley My Home in the Hills (Kansas) Steve Eulberg Rejoice, Rejoice, Believers (Colorado) Lorinda Jones Dona Nobis Pacem (Kentucky) Hollis Landrum Just a Closer Walk With Thee (Mississippi) Anne Lough Coleman's March (N. Carolina) Lee Rowe Cookies and Milk (Tennessee) Stephen Seifert Westfalia Waltz (Kentucky) Maureen Sellers Angel Band (Indiana) Michael Shull Down by the Riverside (S. Carolina) Bob Thomason Haste to the Wedding (Georgia) Mark Tindle Come Thou Fount (Texas) An unsolicited Review:

Just got the new CD Michael produced (Great Players of the
Mountain Dulcimer).
What a great listen! 16 artists, 13 of whom I'd never heard (but
had seen listed in festival itineraries).
I know where a bunch of my money is headed soon!
There's been some discussion recently about church music not needing
to be plodding
or contemplative. Joe Collins' A Mighty Fortress or Steve Eulberg's
Rejoice,
Rejoice, Believers would have the most rhythmically challenged
of my Methodist
friends tapping their toes!
Standard disclaimers - no ties to any of these guys.
